Last night I had a huge burst of artistic inspiration. I came up with two ideas I would like to incorporate into my final project.
I was playing Texas hold em with some friends, we were using lighters instead of money. These are some pictures I took. I would like to use lighters like this in my statue. I think it would be cool to have some color in the shadow.

Rethinking Idea
Although I have gotten some film of Donald that I like. I can't think of a creative way to project the film. Also I don't want to work with projectors with my second project. I would like to work with lights. I am thinking I would like to do something with Christmas lights.
Possibly imitate Yochai Matos. I really like his works. He is an artist from Tel Aviv who works mainly with florescent lights. I would like to create a piece like his but use different lights then he does. He uses florescent lights, maybe I could use christmas lights or some other cheaper alternative.
I also really like the idea of playing shadows. Maybe I could imitate Kellis Landrum's work.

2nd Attempt to film Donald
This time I out smarted the mini bunny and closed him in my kitchen with cushions too tall for him to jump over. I got a 10 minute clip of him and a 40sec clip before my camera died. Its hard to get a good recording of him because he moved so much but there are sections of the 10 minute clip I really like. Maybe I will record him a bunch of times and then edit what I like out. Then combine the good parts
First attempt to film Donald
Day One- filming Donald. I decided to film him in my kitchen because it has a white floor, white walls and is square shaped. I attempted to block off the sides that go into my living room and cabinet area. It was hard to contain Donald. I spent the majority of the first day chasing him around my apartment.

NEW IDEA FOR FIRST PROJECT
I haven't been happy with the direction my project is going. I don't think that projecting time lapse onto a cloud statue will create the effect I was looking for. I have spent a lot of time brain storming how I could change my project. I have come up with the idea of creating INDOOR CLOUD GAZING! I want to borrow my very generous classmate's camera and record a long segment of cloud time lapse. I then want to project my recording inside in overhead space so that viewers feel like they are outside looking up at the sky.
I need to think about how I want to project the film overhead. This depends on where I present my project and on whether or not I have the audience sit or stand. If I present in the classroom, I could project onto the ceiling and have viewers lay on the floor. If I present in the black box, I could create an inclosed space with sheets and metal hangers and project onto a white space. This could get tricky because, what type of fabric? how big do i want the space to be? how will viewers enter and exit the space? etc
What I like most about this idea is creating the illusion of being outside laying in a field, gazing up at the sky. This idea gives me space to play around with noise. I think that some kind of audio needs to accompany the projection to genuinely create this illusion. Maybe I can record sound when I record the video. this may be boring because where I recorded last was by the diagonal highway so the sound recording would just be of cars passing. Maybe this would work. I will have to play around and experiment some bit.

Cloud Construction
I went to Joann fabrics to find some materials to make the clouds out of. I found this white material used as a Halloween decoration and a similar material that is used as snow decoration. The snow imitation material has sparkly thread in it. I played around with the material a little. It was very easy to mold but was very delicate. I am going to need to get some kind of wire/screen to use with it so the clouds will maintain their shape while being hung.
Time Lapse
Yesterday was a 10 out of 10 for cloud gazing and recording cloud time lapse. I ran into some technical issues but was able to get some video recording that may work.

Recent Inspirations
found this time lapse video. At 1:11, the sun light is really bright, this is how I want my footage to look. I wonder if the photographer had the camera faced straight up towards the sky. I didn't try filming that way last time I shot film. I'm going to try that maybe tomorrow. PLEASE BE PARTLY CLOUDY!

Cloud Construction
I have been thinking a lot about what materials would work best for my project. Sara Rockinger used fiber to make the figures in her "In/Visible". Fiber worked really well for her piece but I think for mine, I would like to use a material that will absorb more color. The figures in her piece were very transparent.
Pillows are a possibility. They might absorb too much color though and cast too dark of a shadow unto the background. But I could play around with the pillow stuffing. Also, I could use some normal pillows and some feather pillows. The different types of pillows may create a different effect.
Light bulbs could be really cool. I liked the example of a past students work that involved light bulbs. This could get expensive though and I want my clouds to look as fluffy as possible.
Cotton balls could be fun to play around with, but if I use a small material it would be difficult to make my clouds really large. Also I it could be very hard to connect all the cotton balls together.

Video Projection
A few weeks ago, a friend used an iphone to take pictures of these very colorful clouds as we drove to a concert at Red Rocks. For my project, I would like to use film footage of clouds similar to the clouds in the pictures. I plan on taking the same drive again at the same time of day to record the clouds with my digital camera. I am hoping the video will be as colorful as the original pictures. I think the more colorful the film, the more impressive my piece will be. I want the clouds I construct to be absorbing a lot of color from the film as well as casting shadows onto the backdrop that the film will be projected on. I think finding this balance will be the hardest part of my project.
Re thinking scale
One of the most impressive parts of Sara Rockinger's "In/visible" is it's large scale. I am moving away from the idea of making a mini scene like David Hoffos' "Scene from the House Dream" this means I have to rethink what I want to project onto the clouds
First Project
Inspirations- clouds, David Hoffos and Sara Rockinger's "In/Visible"
Clouds- I like the idea of projecting light onto white shapes. I would like to make a bunch of clouds, each out of a different material. Perspective Materials-cotton balls, tissue paper, paper towels, white cloth,
David Hoffos- I really liked the way he constructed scenes and I like the idea of having my project being contained in a small space. At this point I don't think my scene will have as much details as his
Sara Rockinger's "In/Visible"- I randomly saw this piece while I was working. When I saw it all of my previous ideas for the first project went out the window. This piece is very large. It consists of about six or eight white figures that are suspended from the ceiling. The figures were made out of some kind of transparent, cloth-like, white material. They were hanging in front of a large white wall. In front of the figures was a projector playing a video of farmers working a field on a sunny day. The figures absorbed some of the projected light and created shadows on the white screen. I really liked how the shadows effected the projected film
need to think about what i want to project, I don't think I want to do video. Maybe make the light source interactive. Like a flashlight or cell phone
